What is an Evangelist
What is Christianity
Richard has worked as a surgeon, GP and as an evangelist in Britain, India and parts of Africa. Having reached out in thousands of consultations to patients, he had a major complaint in 2010, which led to a General Medical Council disciplinary case. During the next 2 years he fought the case in the public eye with the help of Christian Concern. During this time, he developed bowel cancer, during the treatment for which he wrote 2 books: the first, "Christians in the Firing Line" detailed 13 cases of UK Christians suspended, sacked and blacklisted for standing up for their faith at work. All were supported by Christian Concern and all profits go to that organisation.
The second book, "God - I’ve got Cancer", documented the statistics which conclusively show that the Judaeo-Christian tradition benefits health. It also examines the questions cancer patients commonly ask, answering them biblically and leading the reader towards receiving Christ personally.
Over the past 6 years, he has continued to lead missions in the UK and abroad, as well as setting up Evangelistic Medical Missions Abroad (EMMA), a charity which sends teams on short-term medical missions in the developing world. Having worked as a volunteer for Through Faith Missions since 1999 and more latterly as a trustee, Richard became leader of the organisation in Sept. 2014. Prior to taking the job, God gave him a vision beyond developing TFM; this vision, aCross Britain, involves covering Britain area by area, training congregations ecumenically to reach their families, friends, neighbours, work colleagues and similar interest groups with the Gospel. This training "road-show" is now ready to hit the ground running; we hope to begin in the West Midlands but other areas are now being actively sought.
Richard continues to do between 3-8 medical locums per month. He is married to Heather and they have 3 adult daughters; the oldest is a charity fund-raiser and gets married this year. The middle daughter is a schools’ nutritionist and is also off the payroll! The youngest girl qualifies this Summer as a philosopher. For relaxation, he loves walking, tennis, running on the beach with dog Nancy and travelling abroad.
